What is the purpose of temperature and climate testing as part of transport simulation?
This type of testing focuses on the resilience of packaging systems during transport. The aim is to ensure that products remain protected during regional or global shipping, even in extreme climatic conditions. The primary concern here is not the resilience of the product itself, but rather whether the packaging can withstand heat, cold or moisture and deliver the product to its destination intact. What happens during a temperature and climate test in a transport simulation?
Packaging and its contents are subjected to stresses in high-performance temperature and climate chambers that may occur during transport. These include:
- Temperature cycles through day and night changes or changing climate zones
- High humidity in tropical regions
- Dry heat (in desert regions) and extreme cold
- Condensation effects that occur when switching between warm and cold environments
The results show whether packaging provides sufficient insulation, keeps the contents dry, and can therefore withstand transport and storage conditions without compromising product safety.
