Constant Acceleration

What is the goal of constant acceleration?

Testing under constant acceleration is carried out using a centrifuge. The aim of a centrifuge test is to simulate the loading of products under constant acceleration forces, as they occur in aerospace and ballistic applications. The results provide important data on the structural integrity (stiffness) of your product and the reliability of the selected fasteners.

What happens during the testing under constant acceleration?

The centrifuge creates an artificial gravity condition. The service life of the product can be estimated by repeating the loads. The sequence of such a test is:

  1. PreparationThe product to be tested is attached to the centrifuge. An additional power supply can be connected.
  2. Acceleration phaseThe centrifuge is accelerated to the desired speed by means of an electric motor.
  3. Holding phaseThe centrifuge maintains the acceleration specified in the individual determination for the specified period.
  4. EvaluationAfter completion, a visual inspection for any mechanical damage will be carried out. If the test subject was tested under load, the recorded data will also be evaluated.

Constant acceleration is used in the following areas:

Centrifuges play a crucial role in environmental simulations. Conditions simulated by the centrifuge are utilized in various fields:

  • AutomotivePumps, Filters, Sensors
  • Aerospace:Engine components
  • Electronics:Various types of electronic components
  • Packaging industry:Fragile goods
